National Centers
NWRI and the Bureau of Reclamation established the National Centers for Water Treatment Technologies in 1994 to improve the utilization of water quality and technology research facilities.
Goals of the National Centers include:
- Reducing technology costs for water utilities.
- Enhancing the coordination of water quality and technology research programs between federal agencies, universities, states, and industry.
- Improving pretreatment and treatment technologies.
- Increasing technology-transfer opportunities for the research and industrial communities.
- Improving public perception of the value of advanced treatment technologies.
- Improving water quality and health effects.
- Increasing water supply.
- The following National Centers are available to researchers interested in pursuing water-purification research. These Centers specialize in water quality technology and research, and include pilot-scale test facilities and research laboratories.
The National Centers include:
- Aqua 2000 (San Diego, California)
- Army Water Quality and Treatment Center (Warren, Michigan)
- Groundwater Replenishment System (Fountain Valley, California)
- University of South Florida (Tampa, Florida)
- Water Quality and Improvement Center at Yuma Desalting Plant (Yuma, Arizona))
- West Basin Water Recycling Facility (El Segundo, California)
